Development Progress

Since the last post our group has gotten deep into the development of our app. We first developed a prototype but we have expanded that even further now.

Blueprints on Launchpad have been assigned to different people for our 0.1 release which will be complete at the end of this week.

Here is a preview of our 0.1 release:

Now we have split up the rest of the development workload into different tasks. An even spread of the work will help us to reach our goals.

Aesthetics we will leave until near the end as right now we are focusing on programming features.

Day of accomplishment!

Much progress was made today on the project. We had our meeting with Seamus at 9.00am and discussed what needed to be done for next week. We decided it would be best to get all the requirements done for the project.

Instead of dragging out this work over the period of a week we did 6 hours of work after our meeting with Seamus and accomplished the following:

  • All Use Cases were finished
  • All Use Case diagrams were done and included with the Use Cases
  • A Sequence diagram for the app was completed
  • The Android prototype we had was expanded upon
  • A wordpress site was setup on my server in order to have a website to add/edit islands:
           http://photofiltre-lx.org/islandadmin/
  • A secondary HTML/CSS website was made in order to have a backup option in case we were not happy with the wordpress solution.

Plans for during the week

I will be doing more work on the secondary website over the next few days.

Dean will be developing the PHP system for the website.

Sarah will be merging the documentation and organizing it into a single document.

Progress this week

Over this week we had a team meeting on Monday to discuss and work on more Requirements documentation.

We then had a meeting Wednesday at 9.00am with our supervisor to show our progress. We came to the conclusion that we would need to do use cases for Friday.

After classes on Wednesday we set about doing those use cases. Seven use cases were created. We sent them via e-mail to our supervisor on Friday.

The next step is to develop a working prototype of our Android app so we can test our design ideas and set a foundation to build on.

Laying the project foundations!

Today myself and Sarah had a meeting in room 1.2 in CIT to discuss and start working out the details of the project.

The meeting lasted 2 hours and we accomplished the following:

  • Outlined the required classes for each main section of the project.
  • Setup a project page on Launchpad.net which is a collaboration/version control service. - https://launchpad.net/capeclearisland
  • We created this blog for the intention of keeping a log of events and work related matters.
We agreed that I (Dylan) will work on Requirements Specification and Sarah will work on Project Definition. Our next meeting will take place next Monday (23rd Jan) at 12.00pm at the IT building.
